Pre-marital counseling was a way for Heather and I to grow closer to one another spiritually, gain insights about each other’s expectations for the marriage, and develop the accountability and transparency that we know we will need in our marriage.
Heather and I went through pre-marital counseling with Jeremiah and Jean, and what we learned in that time continues to bless our marriage. Their approach was unorthodox in that we always met in their home, never in an office or public place. Not that location means anything but the fact that they opened their lives, along with the scriptures, to us speaks volumes about their dedication to the success of the marriages they help nurture. In my opinion, this is vital to successful counseling. It gave Heather and me the ability to see into our mentor’s lives and know that the lessons we were learning were not stale and out of date, nor gleaned from a book on a shelf, but rather real life trails that our mentors have triumphed over.
Being able to see Jeremiah and Jean live life in front of us has impacted us tremendously! They gave us a real life model of a marriage founded on biblical principles and we know that they continue to support us through wise counsel, encouragement, and most importantly, prayer!
